FAQs

What is a visa?

A travel visa is a permit issued by a foreign country allowing you to enter that country for the time given. In our site you can find out whether or not a travel visa is required for the specific country.

Not all countries require a visa for a foreign citizen to enter and stay in their country. That will depend on the country of origin and destination. For example, there are certain immigration requirements (visas) in the United States in those cases in which the flight has a stopover but the final destination is another country.

The Schengen Area is an area comprising 26 European states that have officially abolished passport and any other type of border control at their mutual borders. The area mostly functions as a single country for international travel purposes, with a common visa policy. The area is named after the Schengen Agreement. States in the Schengen Area have eliminated border controls with other Schengen members and strengthened border controls with non-Schengen countries.

Some countries allow it, but not all. Besides being allowed or not for the country of destination, Expediatur recommends to apply for a visa at least 15 days before the trip to avoid any possible delay or even refusal of entrance upon arrival.

Most countries require your passport to be valid for at least 6 months. If your passport expires before that, you must renew it.

Not really. Actually, there are a great variety of visas depending on the country of destination, duration and reason for applying. The most common visas are: tourism, study, work, business, journalist etc.

The validity refers to the expiration date of the visa. The duration, to the maximum time of stay allowed in the country, according to the type of visa, for example: you can have a tourist visa for the United States with a validity of ten years but, the maximum straight time that you can remain in the country is 6 months.

In the majority of countries the visa is stamped in one of the blank pages of the original passport but, certain exemptions do exist.

Some countries require vaccination certificates for certain diseases in order to apply for a visa. This will depend, once again, on the country of destination. There isn’t a common law for all countries.
